Foxtails Brigade

My Patron of the Arts lifestyle continued this weekend when I entertained half of the delightful Foxtails Brigade in my humble home.  They make beautiful music.  Wrap your ears around this:

I know what you're thinking: how did these these melodic San Fransiscans come to be crashing at my Bath flat for a September weekend?  It's a tenuous link: Laura (the singer) and Anton (the violinist) are friends with my buddy Cameron, who wrote a musical when he was doing the Songwriting Masters degree at Bath Spa with my boyfriend.  Still with me?  The Foxtails were travelling around Europe for a month (they came to me via Reykjavik, Paris, and Normandy) and Cameron had mentioned that not only is Bath great for busking, but that he might just know a little Greek who loves feeding people English breakfasts and sharing cream teas with them...so they got in touch!  We had a lovely weekend: there were many cream teas, several pies, at least two outstanding breakfasts, and of course I got to hear their ethereal tunes being played with Bath Abbey as a backdrop.  Laura also bought a dress that I have been coveting for weeks but have yet to muster the balls or the funds to procure for myself - a grand souvenir, indeed.  Clothes make the best souvenirs, don't you think?

Anton was a complete gentleman, offering his awesome fiddle-playing skills to my fella's album-in-the-making, the deadline for which is this coming Friday - I can't wait to hear it!  He's been working on it for SO long, and I'm hugely proud of him.  If you like your folk with a country twinge, then maybe I'll share it with you, if you like?

I love the city I live in, so naturally, I love being able to share it with newcomers.  A Being-A-Tourist-In-My-Own-Town kind of weekend was exactly the kind of weekend I needed.  Plus, who doesn't love meeting new people, and hearing the phrase "if you're ever in San Fransisco..."?

  1. You sound like the perfect host. I'm to frantic to be a good host. I love the idea of such a bohemian life though!

  2. Sounds like a fantastic weekend. Also, really lovely to read about how much you love your city. :)

  3. Wowsers... Lucky Duck. Having an international music act crashing at your place! That's one for the "life's to-do-list" that I'm sure not many get around to. Slightly jealous... mainly of the band because they were lucky enough to score your cooking ;-)

  4. Sadly, Catface, I'm not in the least bit bohemian, I just make sure everybody's got enough pillows and blankets and is drinking enough tea :)

  5. Hello lovely Eleni, how delightful to be introduced to your fabbo blog. Or Fablog, as it should be called.
I also like tea. My fave is Earl Grey, black without sugar.
I also like Bath. The city and the thing. And I'm running one right now, the thing, not the city, which made me think of you.
    Big hugs. Rebecca AKA Falldownstandup

  6. Hello Eleni, I've just found your blog and enjoyed reading it...I'll be popping back, I think, to see what you've been up to. I love Bath - I have friends who live nearby and when we go to see them it is a pleasure to visit Bath as well.
I hope you might come and visit my blogs too.
