He has a MySpace but I'm not sure how up-to-date it is. He has some more recent tracks up on Sound Cloud, including the duet he wrote with Jazz Morley, Tuesday night's headliner. According to the aforementioned MySpace page, Wise Children's influences are: "Nick Drake, Sigur Rós, Frightened Rabbit, Efterklang, Million Dead, Balmorhea" so if (unlike me) you've heard of more than two of those bands, go and click and have a listen! I would say Jazz's music is somewhere between Regina Spektor and Kate Nash, which is no bad thing. She does a great song about being stood up, which brings a lump to my throat (once upon a time I may or may not have waited in the rain for hours by Big Ben, waiting for a boy to turn up...). Here they are together:
Since I consider myself a patron of the arts (read: my boyfriend and all his friends are musicians so I go to a lot of gigs) and I live slap in the middle of town, these guys both stayed at my flat after the gig, and we all enjoyed a big bacon-y breakfast the next day (hint: if you are ever entertaining touring musicians in your home, they will be hugely grateful if you provide them such luxuries as "food" and "a shower"). To express their thanks, they did all the washing up - lovely!
Hello Eleni:
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to think of yourself as a 'Patron of the Arts'. In our view, one of the best titles with which to award oneself. A pity that the very rich do not think the same way.
Oh my, Million Dead are amazing, I wish they were still around. :(
ReplyDeleteI'll check this all out tomorrow, sounds lovely.
