Due to health and safety reasons, the once Wonderous Windowsill Garden has now become...
...The Ingenious Indoor Garden!
I went to visit my parents for Easter and on Saturday we went to a garden centre, as they were looking for a plant/tree to give as a birthday present (note to self: brilliant idea!). I bloody love garden centres, particularly when they have a good pet department, as this one did. Unfortunately I was going far too gaga over the bunnies, lovebirds, and fancy goldfish to take any pictures of them, but believe me, they were ADORABLE, and did nothing to appease my ever-growing Pet Envy (our landlord doesn't allow pets. Or plants on windowsills, as you know).
Luckily, I was able to bring home some plants, and The Old Dears gave me some nice big pots to house them in, so the Ingenious Indoor Garden is coming along in leaps and bounds:
Left to right: my new strawberry plant, jasmine (she's been with me for a while), and wintergreen (not looking too happy about being brought indoors, but I'm persevering)
All new entries here, from left to right: yellow bell pepper, cherry tomato, aubergine, and a baby bay tree!
Obviously I'm being very optimistic about the growing conditions on my bedroom floor, but they do get good light and I'm going to be really careful about not over-watering them (which has been my downfall with many a houseplant). Being the crafty blogger that I am (and not having thought to pinch some proper canes from my parents' garden) I have propped the newbies up using odd knitting needles and scraps of ribbon and wool. I rather like the effect. And of course I am sure you all use charity shop china instead of those nasty plastic trays to catch the excess water, don't you?
I'll let you know how the harvest develops!
That's genious! Here's to hoping they'll grow as well! :)
ReplyDeleteMay the Gods of Growth shine upon them. All true plant-lovers use only china plates and knitting-needles - real gardening gear lacks authenticity.
