Incidentally, it's too late for you to come round now. There's no cake left. Do let me know next time you're in the area though, we ought to do this more often.

If I knew you were coming I'd have baked a cake...
...but frankly your RSVP wasn't very specific, and what with the weather and everything I really didn't know whether to expect you or not, so I thought I'd err on the side of caution and bake one anyway, just in case. And so...
...a Victoria sponge with cherry jam and vanilla cream was made. I know tradition dictates that one does not ice the sides of a Victoria sandwich, but I may have over-estimated the quantities for the butter cream somewhat, and there was just too much left for even my considerable bowl-licking capabilities. So I slathered it onto the sides as well. I must say I am jolly glad that I did.

Oh your cake looks divine! I'm all in favour of plenty of jam and buttercream ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd it sounds like you are becoming even more responsible as an adult - pondering threads and now baking too !! What fun it all is :-)
