A Milk Bottle Garden

My new office is up one of those cul-de-sacs which at first glance looks like a row of garages. Every day since I started (four weeks already? Gosh!) I have noticed that we have some really cute wild flowers growing about the place. Ok, I suspect they're weeds, but as it's mostly garages and industrial units back here, nobody touches them, and so the pretty little flowers are left to grow quite happily.

One of my first regular blog reads was Beauty Everyday - each day these crafty bloggers post a picture of something man-made next to something natural, just because they're beautiful. My favourite thing about Blogland is that it reminds you to look around you and appreciate the little things in life - stop and smell the flowers, as it were...(can you see where this is going?)...

My boss brings in milk for the office from home, and I struggled to hide my excitement on my first day when I learned that they still get old fashioned glass milk bottles delivered (I KNOW!). We have crap recycling facilities at work, so we let a stash of recylables build up, then the boss takes them home. This means that at any given time, there is a little group of old fashioned glass milk bottles sitting around, waiting to be taken home...

...yoink! I decided that I needed wild flowers and milk bottles in my life, so I snuck out to the back of the garages and picked a few pretties. I tried to get right to the roots, as I am hoping that these little babies will become part of my impending Wonderous Windowsill Garden (have I mentioned this before? I have decided that I will cover my new deep window ledges with pot plants. It will be amazing.).

(Sorry the picture's a bit wonky, I'm sure you can appreciate that I didn't want to get any identifyable office details in the picture!)

Now, I know what you're thinking, "Eleni, they're dead weeds". But look closer...poppies!

Who doesn't love dainty little poppies?

I'm annoyed that I left it a bit late to catch this one in flower...it's an orange poppy!

It's dropping seeds everywhere, so hopefully if the cutting doesn't survive I can plant new ones.

I have no idea what the other two are, but I couldn't resist the tiny pink flowers, and I love the red stems. They look quite at home in their bottles, wouldn't you say?

I am very much looking forward to watching my garden grow, and rest assured I will keep you updated as to its progress!
