Gratuitous Yarn Post

I have procured a new job at last, and in celebratory anticipation of the end of my days without wages, I immediately went online and bought new yarn so I can get cracking on my new jumpers!

This first lot is Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Chunky in shade 17032, which is a dark grey:

This is for my Owl jumper:

The pattern actually reccommends Rowan British Sheep Breeds, but I decided to try and find an alternative because pure wool is handwash only (far too impractical for a lifelong Clumsy Clogs like myself), and I'm sorry but I think Rowan wool is too expensive. Yes, it's lovely yarn, but I found this gorgeous Debbie Bliss (55% merino wool, 33% microfibre, 12% cashmere - SO soft and yummy and still machine wshable) on sale online for £2.20 a ball. I'll take 10 please!

I also couldn't resist buying this little lot too:

More Debbie Bliss! This is actally the yarn reccommended for the pattern, Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino - same mix of merino fluffiness, and I finally found just the right shade of pink (602) for Jessica:

I am too pale (and nowhere near girly enough) for such a pale pink as the pattern suggests, so I have gone a couple of shades darker and I cannot WAIT to get started!

  1. Both yarns are lovely, and the pink top is perfect for the mad-men look.

  2. The colours of the yarns are gorgeous... but have you read the comments about the brand on Ravelry? I was looking into getting some for myself, but was put off by tales of knots in every ball, the way it pills so badly that the item looks like its been worn for years before you've even finished it... Hopefully those were just extreme cases, and yours will behave! I don't buy any yarn now without checking out the comments on Rav!

My Rav page on this proj might help? :)

  4. Thank you ladies :)

Mise - just wish I could master the hair as well! Thankfully I have plenty of skirts pouffy enough to draw attention away from an insufficiently pouffy hairdo.

Miss Elle - oops, no, didn't read any yarn reviews, but thanks to my never-ending Brown Cardigan and its endless blunders, I am now adept at hiding knots :) I must say I am loving it so far - it knits really well and feels lovely, I hope it lasts!

Jess - no, I couldn't make it tonight either, but now I actually have something to be working on I'll do my best to make it to the next one!
